Clare walked an entire 3/4 mile on local paths through the woods. This photo of her running was not her typical pace! Our little girl is so entranced by pine cones, acorns, sticks, and other "puppy treats" that it takes her forever to get anywhere. I don't usually mind because I like it that she loves the woods.
The loop we took was about 1.2 miles and Clare needed Daddy's help to finish it.
Hmmm. Who's not sure about her life jacket and the big boat?
Ben and Holly took us out sailing on Ben's parents' sailboat on Saturday. It was the first time Clare had to wear her life jacket. Knowing how resistant she is to change and wanting her to love water, I had made a little replica jacket for her puppy and Matt had worn his one day and let her play with the zippers, etc. We only had a brief screaming fit in the parking lot before a lady came by with a little lap-type dog that made Clare completely forget her life jacket.
The waves were huge six foot rollers and there wasn't much wind. The boat rode them easily, but my stomach was feeling more queasy than normal. I had forgotten that I'm more susceptible to motion sickness while pregnant. Fun, fun. I love sailing but have to admit I was anxious to head back to shore.

| Mmmm.... lunch! Nothing like good old noodles sprinkled with cheese! |
One thing I'm so thrilled about this summer is Clare's love of the water. She absolutely loves "swimming" now. She likes to splash, swim on her belly, be dragged backwards through the water, etc. The only thing she hasn't done is dunked under, but there's time later for that.
On Sunday evening, we overloaded Ben and Holly's little powerboat with 4 adults and 4 kids and beached at a little island with a sandy beach and shallow water. Clare was in her element.
On the way home from boating we stopped for ice cream. What's summer without frequent trips to an ice cream shop?!
Overall, it was a wonderful weekend but like everything else this summer it just flew by. Where has the summer gone?
