Blizzard

A blizzard warning started here on Sunday, with high winds and plenty of snow.  The original warning called for about 10 inches of snow, but by the time Matt blew out the driveway today, there was a good 24 inches, with 4 foot drifts.

We have so much snow in our yard; this is the most snow since we moved here three years ago.  It's also been the coldest winter that I can remember, with each week's forecast calling for more single digits.

To show how much snow we've gotten, here's Clare's snowman on January 5.  Now scroll down...

And here's what our yard usually looks like, with a dusting of snow...  keep scrolling...

And here is our yard today.  Our propane tank is buried and Clare's snowman has completely disappeared.

This recent storm's snow level was above that of the 24"snowblower in most places.

We can't even see out of our eastern upstairs windows.  School was canceled today and it is already canceled for tomorrow.  Today around 5 pm, the plow went down our road for the first time since Saturday.  We could not have driven anywhere today if we had wanted to: our road was covered in a hard pack of 3-4 foot drifts.  Makes me grateful for freezers full of food and plenty of canned goods in the basement.
