Spring has Sprung

Over the past week our snow has been disappearing like crazy.  Here are the girls on Sunday, trying to entice the chickens to leave their coop in the barn (there's a small entrance hole behind that old tire).

And the sand pile is free of snow!  Big excitement for Karl!  Here he's using a backhoe to make a "city" near the "forest" he planted with little sticks.

Lena just chilled in the front pack all afternoon.

Background shows the old compost bin made of pallets and the new compost bin(s) made of plywood behind.  We had to make the cracks in between boards small enough so rabbits can't get in and chickens can't get out.  The chickens will have access to our compost and will help turn it over. Which they are naturally really good at.  Don't worry - the chickens won't be kept IN our compost bin, but the compost bin makes up part of the wall in their fenced run.

Here are the girls, enjoying some early spring sunshine:

Nora found matching rakes:
Can't believe how big this girl is getting!
We had a fun walk on Sunday through the field.  The kids found puddles and had so much fun splashing in them.  Karl fell down in them a couple times - the first was an accident; I'm not so sure if the other times were.  He loves getting dirty.  Of course they had to splash each other too, so by the time we made it home they were wet and pretty cold.  The puddles are recently melted snow after all.
