Clare and I made resurrection cookies on Friday. Basically, you take a marshmallow that is supposed to represent Jesus, roll it in butter (oil) then in cinnamon and sugar (burial spices), then wrap it in crescent roll dough (burial cloths/tomb) and bake it. The marshmallow melts and is symbolic of Jesus not remaining in the grave cloths or the tomb. It's a neat idea and Clare loved helping make them and of course eating them.

But with preschoolers, the metaphor only goes so far. Clare had some great comments over the weekend, including:
"The marshmallow has risen!"
"Jesus has melted!"
"The marshmallow is alive!"
"The marshmallow rose from the dead!"
Oh, it made for some good laughs.
I know she understood the story and the reason behind the cookies but it just goes to show that kids are great at seeing the humor when we try to explain one thing by using something else.

I *almost* made these with the kids this year, but in the end decided I just didn't need one more thing on my plate right now. Next year! I was laughing at Clare's exclamations... I think my favorite is the melting Jesus one. Oh my! :)
