I just got the call from our principal who informed me that the local area has decided to cancel school today. Apparently a lake effect snow band is supposed to bring 17-32 inches of heavy snow and wind, about 15-25 mph, throughout the Keweenaw both today and tomorrow. Yesterday, most schools south of us were canceled due to blizzard conditions, but we didn't get hit up here. I guess today it's our turn.
Two years ago, I wouldn't have found this out until 6:30 a.m., after my shower, and while eating breakfast listening to the radio. Now, we have a phone tree set up where our principal calls two people, and then we each call two people and so on.
So now it's 5:30: Matt's out snowblowing because he wants to get it done and was up to do it anyway, and I'm typing because I'm too excited about all the things I can do today to go back to bed. From our living room window, it seems pretty calm out there, but snow IS coming down and we are fairly protected from heavier winds here. I won't complain about having this "bonus day" to get things done!

Amy, have a great day!! If you were a teacher down here, you would have had yesterday and today off. :) My girls got along really well all day yesterday; I'm hoping for the same today. B's a little disappointed that her Christmas concert for tonight got cancelled... but what can you do?
