Remodeling

Our lives have been so busy lately that our remodeling projects have been put on hold. Actually, our remodeling projects came to a halt about the time bow season started, doing only a few things as we found time. Matt spend a few hours stripping the paint off our trim over a couple of weekends and I put two coats of paint in the dining room.

Our new floor is down and already getting dented in a bit by Molly's claws. We put in yellow birch, which is beautiful (and a light color which the room needed, being dark) but it is a soft wood that dents more easily than others. The finish Matt put on will protect the wood just fine, but the room will look used more quickly! That's okay, though... it fits the "old house" look that we're trying to recreate.

Now that hunting is over (maybe... Matt might do some late season bow hunting yet), we plan to get the rest of the original trim stripped, then primed and repainted. We have baseboards to put up, and ceiling trim to repaint. I'm looking forward to getting artwork up on the walls to make it look more like home. I wanted to put everything up already, but we still have some messy sanding work to do which will send sanding dust all over.

We did put up our Christmas tree already... I love real trees, but we put up an artificial one again this year for a couple of reasons. We won't be in town for Christmas, so we wanted to have one up early enough to enjoy it for awhile. I also don't like the thought of cutting down a tree for only a few weeks when we're hardly ever here to enjoy it. They do smell so good, though...
