Forts

Lena does not like going outside in the winter.  She doesn't like putting on all her layers and leaving the warm house.  But once she's out, she usually has fun.

One day she REALLY didn't want to go outside so we had to use building a snow fort as a bribe.  Usually we've made many forts by now but there just hasn't been a lot of snow.  Lena started rolling a snowball for her fort.  She rolled it down the hill.  By the time she rolled it back up the hill it was so big she really struggled to move it.  I had to shovel a path for her to roll it into her fort because it was too big to pick up any more snow.

Lena sits on her snow couch.

While the kids are in school Lena usually rides in our kindershuttle or ski stroller while I ski our trails.  One day she wanted to build a fort in the woods.  I showed her a spot under a downed pine that I thought would make a good fort.  Lena said, "I don't want that fort 'cause you showed it to me."  Then she found her own under two apple trees growing close together.  On the weekend the other kids built their own forts nearby.

Nora heading back home, making big snowshoe tracks.
