It's hard to believe that four years ago this December, Karl was born. In many ways, those years have flown by. It's been fun to watch Karl grow from an easy-going, happy baby to the thoughtful, car-and-truck-loving little boy he is today.
Karl chose a police car birthday cake. I've long given up on trying to make cakes look nice, so I let him design the roads with wax paper, let him sprinkle powdered sugar everywhere else to make snow, and then let him line the roads with licorice. Somehow Clare got her My Little Ponies on his cake - the power of a big sister's suggestion is not to be underestimated.
Does this look like a boy excited to open presents, or what?

I'm actually writing this on New Year's Day and we had Waffles and Whip for dinner tonight. Clare asked, "Whose birthday is it?" which shows how seldom we eat this meal (basically dessert for dinner!) Matt had the wisdom to say it was the New Year's birthday and that's why we were celebrating with Waffles and Whip. I think this might become an annual tradition... :-)

But you put green beans on that waffles and whip dinner, so it's still healthy. :) Happy Birthday Karl!! We like waffles and whip over here too, and we usually add bacon as a side. :)
