Chicks Day 2

Day 2 for us with the chicks is probably Day 4 for them because they likely hatched on Monday and then traveled for two days through the mail.

They are fluffy balls of cuteness now but some are already sprouting wing feathers:

The kids love the chicks.  Karl, Nora and I spent time with them this morning and Clare headed straight for the basement when she got home from school.

Karl likes to tell me which chicks to catch so he can pet them.  We had to institute a "one-finger" rule when I noticed he was trying to pinch them.

Nora loves watching the chicks.
The chicks are already learning what "feeding time" means.  Even though they have food available all the time, they start peeping excitedly when they see food coming.  They've gotten used to eating from our hands and seem to prefer that to eating from their feeder.

They crowd in and jostle each other to get food from a hand when there's plenty of fresh food in the feeder.
Amberlinks and Orpingtons are impossible to tell apart at this stage; the Rhode Island Reds are much darker.
I imagine there will be more chicken posts in the future.  I didn't think I'd love these little balls of fluff as much as I do; apologies to anyone who is not that interested in chickens!
