Happy Birthday!

We celebrated Clare's birthday on Friday, which seemed to be the best day for all the local cousins, aunts and uncles, and Grandma and Grandpa K.  The weather was fairly decent so we set up a long table in the garage because we were going to grill antelope burgers.  Unfortunately, the wind was too strong to enjoy the meal with the garage doors open, so we ate out there and then came in the house for dessert.
I tried a whipping cream/raspberry frosting on "Grandma's Chocolate Cake".  I thought it turned out pretty good but my nephew Bryson took one mouthful and said, "This part is gross!"   The adults all finished theirs; whether out of politeness or the fact that they really liked it, I don't know.

Clare was already acting tired and cranky by the time we put her in her high chair.  She touched the frosting, looked at it on her fingers and started bawling.  She didn't stop until we took her out, so no birthday cake for the birthday girl.
This just goes to show that little kids care more about the packaging than the gifts.  The bag she's holding is empty; I'm showing the cute bib that was inside.
I have such talented sisters-in-law.  Lo made this adorable little hat (but Clare's head was too big so she said she'd whip up another), and Di made the cute pink bib.

Happy First Birthday, Clare!
